News and Announcements
Over the past year we have seen a number of new flea and tick products hit the market. After looking into these products, I wanted to share with you what Dr. Hunter has decided the best option for flea and tick control is for your pet.
For inside dogs that are in a controlled enviroment, meaning house and yard only, he still recommends Sentinel--a flea control, heartworm and intestinal parasite preventive in one. You should not need a tick control, if you do try the Preventic collar.
For outside dogs and even those who come inside but like to roam the neighborhood or check out the woods, Comfortis is the best option. Comfortis is a once a month pill, which we are seeing great results.(for more information on Comfortis go to 'Our Links' and click on the Comfortis link provided). But, don't forget to continue with your heartworm prevention. Comfortis does not protect your dog from heartworms. If you need a tick control, you could use the Preventic Collar or just Advantix (a topical flea and tick control).
For cats, Revolution is the best option. Revolution is a topical that will protect your cat from fleas, heartworms, intestinal parasites and ear mites.
We also recommend that in this area of the United States, you give heartworm preventative and flea control year round. It is easier to prevent a problem with fleas or heartworms than battle it once it has started.
As the warmer days approach us, I hope that this helps make your babies itch free. If you would like to talk more about flea control or heartworm preventative, please do not hesitate to give us a call.
As always, we thank you and it is a pleasure for us to have the opporunity care for your loved ones.
